Set in the midst of simply stunning scenery and regularly scoring as one of the top three most desirable cities to live in, Vancouver is a dynamic and rapidly changing cosmopolitan destination that has the added benefit of the natural wonders of its great outdoors.

If you love the outside life then Vancouver is your city and the appropriately dubbed Sunshine Coast should be on your must-see list. The Lower Coast makes an excellent day trip out of Vancouver, and a quick and enjoyable 40 minute ferry ride out of Horseshoe Bay will have you there.

Art lovers will be pleased by the Lower Coast’s bustling arts and culture scene with events like the well respected Festival of Written Arts and Fibre Arts Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors each year.

There’s plenty happening on the Upper Coast too, and the Sunshine Coast overall makes a wonderful destination to visit in order to escape the crowds and indulge in a proper getaway. You can take part in a mind-boggling array of outdoor activities like sea kayaking, sailing, mountain biking, hiking, scuba diving and fishing. Partaking in all these activities will certainly work up your appetite and dining in the waterfront restaurants and bistro-style cafes in the Sunshine Coast makes the perfect end to a fun-filled day.

In the city centre there’s a sense of excitement as preparations take place for the 2012 Winter Olympics, and Vancouver’s natural wonders make it the perfect Olympic destination. Beyond the city-hugging beaches and snow-capped mountains a relatively young city unfolds bringing with it all the related bonuses and benefits.

The museums, exhibitions and galleries will easily keep you occupied, whilst the vast expanse of parkland is enough to keep you occupied for weeks. Stanley Park has a paved walkway that offers picturesque views of the surrounding mountains, forests and the ocean. What’s more, you can pack a picnic and make a day of it by visiting the internationally-acclaimed Aquarium Marine Science Centre, one of North America’s five largest aquariums, which is located right in Stanley Park.

Shopaholics won’t be disappointed either; so bring an extra suitcase and return home with a collection of Canadian goodies. The city’s aptly named Metropolis Shopping Centre is home to some 470 shops where you will without a doubt be able to find a holiday gift to please everyone.

It is important to understand that most flights to Vancouver land at Vancouver International Airport on Richmond Island, only ten miles from the city centre. The trip into town is therefore an easy one and if you cruise along Stanley Park Causeway you can savour the welcoming sights of greenery from Vancouver’s most luscious parks.

Once you find your accommodation and get rid of those bags, then it’s time to explore this eclectic city.

The pharmaceuticals industry is one of the leading manufacturing sectors in Britain, generating an annual trade surplus of around £4.3 billion; it is also a major employer with approximately 73,000 people employed directly. The majority of British medical research is still supported by the pharmaceutical industry and as about half of all major medicines sold in the United Kingdom are actually developed within the country itself, the need for employees is a constant one.

Those employed in the pharmaceutical industry fulfil a variety of positions from scientists to researchers and marketers to human resources. If you want to pursue a career in medicine but don’t think you have relevant experience then take a second look, as people from all professions have skills that can be transferred into pharmaceutical positions.

The typical journey from the development of a medicine, to making it available for consumer consumption is a varied one that requires the skills and expertise of many different workers.

First of all the pharmaceutical company will decide upon which illness or illnesses they wish to target. Once this is decided, research teams will start work on the drug discovery phase; the main purpose of which is to identify potential compounds that could be used. Clinical trails help greatly with compound development, and it is after this stage that production and manufacturing begin.

Once a new medicine has been successfully created and developed, a different team of employees will then carry out their part, helping to design and implement all related production requirements. This of course needs to be done in a cost-effective manner and on a large scale; therefore, project management skills help greatly here.

Before a pharmaceuticals company can place a new medicine on the market there are various registration and regulatory requirements that need to be adhered to; and input is needed from several employees in order to make this happen.

Now that the medicine has been developed and patented an packaged up and ready to go, sales and marketing staff are required to ensure the relevant medical professionals are informed of the new product. It goes without saying that good communication skills go a long way here and those from non-medical sales or marketing backgrounds should still be able to shift their skills across to the pharmaceutical industry.

As with all businesses, information technology is needed to support various functions and the pharmaceuticals industry is no different. Human resources is another one of the core pharmaceutical jobs that supports the ‘people’ side of the business, dealing with everything from training and development to salary reviews and overall employee relations.

Therefore, whatever your skills and background there may well be a job in the pharmaceuticals industry for you. And before you know it, you could be making your mark in medicine in no time.

Cutting energy costs is achieved best through a combination of actions. But using less energy to begin with is a good place to start, and something everyone in your household can contribute towards.

Cutting down on the amount of energy you use doesn’t have to be difficult; a few simple changes here and there could bring you cost savings of several hundred pounds each year as well as lowering the number of emissions you produce. Indeed, both your bank balance and the environment can benefit.

The easy ways to save energy are often forgotten in the hustle and bustle of everyday life but once you get back in the swing of energy efficient ways, you’ll wonder how you ever slipped out of them in the first place.

Switching off the lights when you leave a room is a major money saving method and whilst on the subject of lighting, why not replace your light bulbs with energy saving versions? An energy saving light bulb lasts up to ten times longer than their ordinary counterparts and using just one can save you a substantial amount over the lifetime of the bulb.

Another quick and simple way to cut energy costs is by switching appliances off properly, rather than using the standby; therefore, next time you have finished watching television turn off switch and you will soon discover that you are saving the pennies already.

In addition, when going about your domestic duties remember to fill washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers to full capacity if possible. One full load uses less energy than two half loads, so simply filling up your machines can help greatly. The fridge is another kitchen appliance that can cost you a considerable amount; if your fridge is turned up too high it will be working overtime to keep everything cold, and thus driving your bills skywards. Therefore, have a quick check to ensure your fridge isn’t turned up too high; adjusting accordingly if it is. The same principle applies to the freezer, but you can keep costs down here by making sure you regularly defrost yours.

Having a look at your thermostat is another straightforward way to cut emissions and utility bills. By turning your thermostat down just 1°C you could cut your heating bills by a good proportion. Of course, the chances you probably won’t even notice 1°C of difference, but if so you can always pop on a cosy jumper and forget about the cold.

And once you have put some energy saving methods into practice, you should notice a drop in your gas and electricity bills. If you want to push them down even further, consider managing all your utility accounts online; this usually achieves more saving in comparison to traditional paper bills, so get on the internet and register for paperless billing.

What’s more, paying your bills by monthly direct debit will also save you more money per annum; and another easy way to cut your energy costs is to compare utility bills in order to find the best deal available to you.

Indeed, from making such small changes to how you run appliances in your home, in addition to keeping track of the costs of your utility bills, it is possible to save money, whilst at the same time energy too.
