So if you’re ready to finally take the step and make the great American movie, here are a few things to keep in mind…

Imagination, Not Money

By just renting out the equipment, you don’t even have to buy anything. How many movies have you seen, major Hollywood movies, that seem to take place entirely in a suburban household, or a hotel room, and it’s really, mainly, just people talking? These movies typically have budgets of several million dollars US. Why? Because studios don’t solve problems creatively, they just throw money at problems until they go away.

Write What You Have

In novels, you write what you know. For film, you write what you have. When you sign a seven figure contract, you can come up with all the crazy stuff you want, but for now, don’t write anything into your script unless you know how you’ll film it. This doesn’t mean that you can’t write a space opera, just that you’d better be ready to build a space station out of macaroni, silver spray paint and super glue. Of course, with cheap consumer grade CGI software, anyone can create Hollywood grade visuals.

Keep the Cast Small

You’ll find soon enough that building sets and getting props and setting up special effects is the easy part. In fact, with consumer grade CGI programs, you can create a big budget film entirely from your laptop… Unless you want to put some characters in the story. Getting actors is the hardest part of making a low or no-budget movie. Even getting your friends to help out can be impossible. The only people you can really rely on are the people who want to make the movie just as bad as you do, someone who helped you write the script or raise the funds to rent the stuff to make the movie with. If all else fails, get some fake mustaches and wigs and play all the characters yourself.

Do it For Fun

Most people don’t make much money on their first feature. In fact, most debut features done at the dirt cheap indie level don’t turn over a dime. So don’t do it for the money. Know that if you stick to it, if you make one movie and then another and then another, you probably will, eventually, earn some fame as a skilled director, but don’t do it for that. Do it because you love movies and wanted to make one of your own, do it so you can have, at the very least, a cool DVD on your shelf to commemorate your best-spent-summer ever.

The film industry has went through changes throughout the past years. Film equipment hire may be simpler to get into than you may believe it is.http://www.independentgrip.co.uk/

Accordingly, a boom crane lets you smoothly pan and follow the course of a car weaving around an obstacle course in a chase scene. These booms also provide the incredible cityscape shots that you might see in a superhero movie. As you can see, they serve many purposes that aid in creating better visual art.

As important as camera cranes are, light cranes can also contribute in major ways to the overall efficiency of your project. Any good photographer can tell you that capturing the right kind of light is crucial to getting the right shot. If you shoot outdoors, this can be difficult, which is where light cranes come in handy.

You can artificially create the sunlight you want for a particular time of day, but still use the luscious landscape as the perfect backdrop. Similarly you can’t always just hang lights on an indoor photo shoot or sound stage taping.

You could even use it to light from the ground up if you so choose. Obviously, boom arms like this let you get more creative with lighting, creating more interesting looking pictures. You can get camera cranes, light cranes, and other equipment like this at a variety of camera specialty stores.

For a better selection, and probably even better prices, though, you can also find these same stores and many others online. Shopping online for this kind of merchandise is way more convenient than going to the store, as you don’t necessarily need to try them out first.

If you are looking for a new set of camera cranes, lighting cranes, or other camera equipment, you can find them at a specialty retailer in your area. A better, more convenient option, though, might be to head online where you can get the same stuff, and probably more at highly competitive prices. In fact, you might find that the selection and the prices online are much better than a traditional store.

They might even provide links that will let you see how they have used the equipment, giving you a better idea of which ones will suit your particular style or the projects you have coming up. There are many delivery options available too, the most attractive of which is free shipping, which you can probably have sent straight to your studio!

A camera crane is an essential component of good photography. Check out our online guide to top notch cranes now on http://www.independentgrip.co.uk/

Even though cinema viewing has undergone a surge in popularity over the past decade, the current economic downtown may force people to consider the cost of a family trip to the cinema as an unnecessary expensive luxury.

Indeed, even from a purist’s point of view the full cinema experience is hard to beat. However, when viewing companions in the cinema decide to munch, rustle or talk their way through the performance, or worse still repeatedly kick the back of your chair, it can entirely spoil the whole occasion. And if you have ever experienced that frustration in the cinema, what you may wish for is a better and cheaper alternative.

Until relatively recently, that big screen occasion couldn’t easily be replicated at home. However, advances in high definition, visual and digital sound technologies, combined with decreasing costs in large screen TVs and home cinema set-ups, are now bringing the full cinema experience into our living rooms. But the main advantage of this is that it’s without having to suffer the annoyance of antisocial theatre goers!

Therefore, why not turn your thoughts to the luxury of watching films in your own personal theatre? It is not as outrageous as it may sound as the cost of setting up your own home cinema is now well within the reach of the average family. As it goes, buying a brand new 40 inch High Definition LCD TV with built-in Freeview and added extras is not as expensive as once perceived, making home viewing incredibly tempting. As a result, many more Britons are choosing to watch films at home.

Although blockbuster films take several months to reach pay-tv or be released as DVD films, many more people are quite happy to wait. The slight delay in seeing the latest releases is a small price to pay in return for enjoying the full cinema experience in the comfort of your own home. It is also good to know that the quality of viewing is not compromised, especially now that most new titles are available on Blu-ray disc, as well as standard DVD.

What’s more, add in the advantage that once a DVD film has been purchased, it can be enjoyed over and over again; and of course, paused or repeated at any stage. Additionally, the cost of popcorn, fizzy drinks and sweets are far cheaper when bought at the supermarket and consumed at home. Therefore, there are clearly a number of advantages for staying at home to watch films.

The personification of suave and sophisticated, James Bond is perhaps as well known for his love of cars as he is for his love of women. In fact, many of his cars live on in the memory of fans long after those of the Bond girls have faded away.

The cars most associated with James Bond have never been your average family run around; after all it would be hard to imagine the super-spy driving a Ford Escort equipped with machine guns and rocket launchers! However, while James Bond did make use of more mundane vehicles when the need arose throughout his adventures, he is perhaps better known though for his use of those gadget-laden cars which featured heavily in the movies.

Nevertheless, the first of the James Bond cars was an altogether more modest vehicle – a mustard coloured Sunbeam Alpine, which featured in the first James Bond film, ‘Dr. No’ and sadly was not equipped with machine guns or oil sprays. It was also a far cry from Bond’s preferred choice of vehicle, the British-made Bentley.

The cars in ‘From Russia With Love’ were slightly more upmarket, although Bond drove neither. Instead he was chauffeured around in a Rolls Royce Silver Wraith and a Ford Fairlane station wagon. Again, there were no gadgets; in ‘Goldfinger’, however, they appeared with a vengeance and ignited the imagination of car enthusiasts everywhere. In ‘Goldfinger’, Bond drove a quintessential British car – the Aston Martin DB5, which featured machine guns, revolving number plates, rocket launchers and even an ejector seat! The same style of car also appeared briefly in ‘Thunderball’.

For the next film, ‘You Only Live Twice’, Bond went Japanese with his choice of car with a Toyota 2000GT. At the time, the 2000GT was an extremely rare and expensive car, even in Japan. Bond’s version had none of the gadgets seen in ‘Goldfinger’ save for a TV monitor built into the dashboard. Bond’s other method of transport in the film – a gyrocopter named ‘Little Nellie’ – more than made up for the lack of gadgets, however, with machine guns, rocket launchers, flamethrower and even air-mines attached to parachutes!

A new Bond signalled a new car, and George Lazenby’s portrayal of James Bond featured a return to British-made vehicles and a new Aston Martin; this time the DBS car, although glimpses of the car were confined mainly to the early sequences of the film, with Bond often being seen in cars of other characters, rather than his own.

One of the greatest car chases in modern cinema history also features one of Bond’s best known cars – the Mustang Mach 1. Mustangs appeared frequently in the Bond movies, and in the chase sequence in which Bond is pursued through the streets of Las Vegas by the police, also features one of the most well-known movie gaffes; when Bond’s car enters an alley on one pair of wheels to elude the police, the car emerges on the opposite side on the opposite set of wheels! Impressive, even by James Bond’s standards!

Perhaps the favourite of schoolboys everywhere, the image of the white Lotus Esprit emerging from the sea onto a crowded beach in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ is many people’s idea of the definitive Bond car. Equipped with gadgets aplenty, the Lotus Esprit wasn’t just a car but a submarine. A similar version appeared in ‘For Your Eyes Only’ but this time around the supercar had to play second fiddle to a souped-up Citroen 2CV!

The Aston Martin returned yet again, with the Aston Martin V8 taking centre stage in ‘The Living Daylights’ and featuring rocket launchers, spiked tyres and laser tyre-shredders among other gadgets, which even included a pair of skis! However, with another James Bond on the horizon, another change of car was inevitable and this time BMW provided the wheels: the BMW Z3 appeared in ‘Goldeneye’, even though it hadn’t yet been released, while the Z8 model appeared in ‘The World Is Not Enough’.

‘Die Another Day’ saw another return to Aston Martin with the V12 Vanquish being the car of choice and was once again replete with gadgets while Bond drove the DBS V12 version in ‘Casino Royale’ and will do so again in the upcoming ‘Quantum Of Solace’ movie.

But how do Bond’s employers, MI6, manage to keep up with the replacement costs of vehicles for James Bond, given his knack of wrecking them!? After all, they’re unlikely to require BMW car finance or a bank loan to finance their latest Aston Martin purchase, while most insurance companies would be unlikely to quote for a vehicle equipped with machine guns and which runs a very high risk of being destroyed!

It’s perhaps just as well for the super-spy then that his licence to drive hasn’t yet been revoked, while if he had to foot the bill for replacing the vehicles himself, he might be more careful!? Otherwise he could be forced into driving that Ford Escort!
