Exploring London and Its Majestic Beauty
Even if you haven’t actually been to London, most people know exactly what to expect from it; a bustling Metropolitan city full of busy offices, boutique shops and huge department stores, coming alive at night with its many superior bars and crowded live music venues.
But what London has to offer that actually sets it apart from the other ‘bright lights’ style destinations, is that it has a rich history and perhaps a little more substance than some of the other larger cities. And if you take the time to delve beneath its bustling alter ego, you can find a more relaxed and thoughtful place – with a rich history and many areas of quiet beauty.
Perhaps offering one of the more perfect moments for calm reflection, is Kew Gardens – 300 acres of lush green botanic area; extended to this grand scale by Princess Augusta, the widow of Fredrick, Prince of Wales. An intricate Chinese pagoda that she placed within the grounds in 1761 can still be found there today. But from spending time within the gardens, you feel instantly transported from busy central London, into some kind of fairytale land of rare plants and flowers.
Of similar majestic beauty is Hampton Court, located upstream of central London, and proves a well worth visit. It has an expanse of huge green lawns, complimented by an expansive collection of art work and furnishings from the Royal Collection, as well as an outdoor maze where you can walk through. From visiting such beautiful areas like this, it is likely to send you away with many more stories to tell your friends; perhaps more so than if you were to spend your time solely shopping and dining out in central London.
And in terms of areas to stay, you are pretty much spoilt for choice, and Euston may prove a handy area when on your travels. Of course, when one thinks of Euston, the first thing that often springs to mind is the train station – as it is often viewed as one of these in between areas that one travels through or catches a train from, but never really explores. But being just a little over a mile outside the city centre of London, it is perfectly located. And this little area has a grand Victorian history; in fact there are many hotels in Euston that have been built within Victorian buildings.
So, it is possible to make your time in London a little bit of a richer experience by adding some history to your stay, from visiting any number of the grand palaces, regal houses and beautiful landscaped gardens. And if you feel like lavishing yourself, you can stay in an authentic Victorian building and steep yourself completely in ancient history; locking out the modern world for a few blissful days.
