How to Deal With a Bad Hair Day
Bad hair days always happen when we least want and need them. Whether you’ve woken up with bad hair, or an attempted styling has gone wrong or it’s perhaps too hot to wear your hair down, learning a few simple yet stylish updo tricks will banish bad hair days for good and have you looking ravishing – anytime, anyplace.
Updo’s suit any occasion and the good news is that they are all the rage this season. Updos look best when they are are casual, so you don’t have to fuss too much. Aiming for perfection can look too contrived and simply twisting and tucking and securing with a pin or hairband is often enough. Here are some of the updos that have been strutting their stuff down the Autumn catwalks…
Good news for long hair — the classic ponytail is back! For looking good day and night, simply straighten hair and pull back into a tight ponytail. This sleek and shiny look is a cinch and emphasises cheekbones into the bargain. For uber sleekness, use a strong gel or hairspray to take care of any wisps or stray curls.
Alternatively, try a different twist on the classic ponytail. To create a fresh European look then a side parting is a must! Or, banish the parting altogether and scrape all hair back into a tight ponytail, running your hair straighteners through your ponytail for super sleekness. For a more romantic yet unruly ponytail include a wispy or heavy fringe and loosely tie back into a ponytail.
Softer than the sleek ponytail, the classic loose twisted bun never fails. This can even be done without a mirror. Simply pull hair back into a low ponytail, twist the tail and keep twisting until a bun is formed. Secure loosely with a hairband or some grips and let the ends flop out for a more casual look, or tuck under and secure with grips if you’re a neat-freak.
For something a little wilder, twisted plaits and messy hair is also a funkier look for this season. Best on day old hair, make a loose plait each side of the head, pull aournd to meet at the back, and tuck together at the nape of the neck.
Hair accessories help prepare you for any occasion. Turn your casual daytime look into a sexy, party girl style by using the right decorative clips, slides, bands, or even weaving a flower into your bun for that Spanish fiesta look.
Don’t be afraid to experiment; sit in front of the mirror, straighteners in hand, and play. Take inspiration from magazines and your favourite celebrities, and find the right styles that flatter you. Experiment with your hair, keeping it sleek and straight or romantically curly. When you find something that you really like, remember to take notes and even a picture – it can be hard to recreate exactly what you’ve just achieved!
Once you know what suits you, you’ll have the confidence to try out any new similar styles. Then you’re ready to go and find your own catwalk and strutt your stuff.
