See The Best Of Birmingham
Some people like nothing better than to go shopping for a day and return home with plenty of carrier bags full of clothes and goodies. However, others like to relax and go to the cinema to see a good film. But whatever you like doing, you will certainly have a great time out in Birmingham. There is plenty to see and do here, from enjoying the many local restaurants and snack bars to visiting the main museum in Birmingham.
The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is situated in Chamberlain Square, and it has been there for well over a century. But this is far more than just a local museum – its collections are stunning and give a perspective on the whole world as far as artwork and sculpture are concerned. It is perfect for an eye opening day out.
If you would prefer something a little sweeter, don’t miss out on a visit to the Cadbury World chocolate factory in Bournville. Not far from the centre of Birmingham, a tour round the factory enables you to see the chocolate being made, as well as allowing you to have a taste of some of Cadbury’s famous delights!
Despite the fact that Birmingham is a major city, it also has plenty of open spaces to enjoy if you want to get away from the bustling nature of the more built up areas. There is the Birmingham Nature Centre for example, which has a fascinating collection of animals including red pandas. It provides a welcome and educational break from the sometimes hectic nature of the main city centre.
Of course, some people like nothing better than to explore the local shops in every place they visit, and Birmingham offers a wonderfully modern shopping centre. The Bullring, as it is known, is huge and has a major department store at either end, with plenty of other smaller shops in between. You are guaranteed to spend a long day out here; therefore, make sure you enjoy refuelling at one of the many eating places you’ll find along the way.
These are just a taster of the many things you can get up to in the city, and you’ll soon find that it is very easy to spend a long weekend there. It’s worth doing some virtual exploring online before you visit though, so that you can get an idea of just how many things you could be doing.
Hotels in Birmingham are dotted all over the city, so you have a good choice between staying right in the centre or going slightly further out. Wherever you stay you won’t be far from something to see or do though – because this is one city that always has plenty to offer.
