The Benefits of Buying A British Car

There are some things that Britain definitely lags behind the rest of the world in, but making cars isn’t one of them.

While there are plenty of other makes and models of car produced in other countries that British people drive round in, the Brits have produced some efficient cars in their own right too, and if your budget can accommodate one of them then you would certainly be assured of a good drive.

Buying second hand as opposed to brand new gets you an even better deal, because you will be paying far less for a car that is just a year or two old. The history of the British car industry goes back for decades, and it is these combined years of knowledge that have come together to create the British made cars that many of us are driving round in today.

So what are the benefits of buying British cars instead of something made in another country? After all a British car won’t necessarily be the cheapest and you’ll need to have a big budget to stretch far enough to be able to afford some of the more expensive and luxurious models. What’s more, many British cars aren’t one hundred per cent British anyway, since certain parts — like the engine for example — are sometimes made in another country.

British made cars tend to be quite popular and therefore the spares and accessories are freely available, and often easier to get hold of, than foreign marques. They can also be cheaper for the same reason. If you were to buy a foreign car that isn’t very well known or used in Britain you could run into trouble if you ever needed to repair or replace a certain part that had become damaged or worn out.

You might think that given the huge range of foreign cars available to choose from that you would be limiting your choice by sticking to British makes and models, but you would be wrong. Although originally an American marque, you only need to look at the giant car manufacturer that goes by the name of Ford to see that the range that just this one company offers is quite large and appeals to many different people, no matter what size or style of car you are looking for. Ford have their own UK manufacturing arm, and many of their most popular models, such as the Ford Focus and Ford Mondeo are built in the UK, while other UK marques, such as Vauxhall and Rover are also popular choices for UK car buyers.

Whatever car you decide on you will need to make sure you can afford to buy it and keep it on the road. It might also be an idea to speak to a mechanic and get rough estimates for common repairs such as exhaust replacements, or clutch fittings, so if you do your research before you decide to buy it you won’t be in for any nasty surprises.
