A Credit Crunch Girl Night In

Girls just wanna have fun…and nothing’s going to stop us, not even the credit crunch!

However, now that we have to tighten our purse strings, a creative girls night in can replace those expensive nights out on the town and be heaps more fun at a fraction of the cost. Here are some ideas…

Fun and Games: There’s nothing like a game of Charades, Twister or Pictionary to make you laugh until it hurts. Raid your old boxes of childhood games or borrow a karaoke machine and howl along to girlie classics like the Grease Soundtrack, or 80s pop music.

A gastronical delight: Host a dinner party, with each friend in charge of bringing along a course. Set a gastronomical theme; for example, an Italian night, or food from an American Diner. With a choice of appertises, starter, main course, dessert and wine it will make for a delicious evening – and you can swap courses next time around. Alternatively, have a cheese, chocolate, and/or wine tasting evening. Blindfold your friends and see if they can guess which is Dairy Milk or Galaxy, Chardonnay or Chablais.

Swap Shop: Get all your friends to bring unwanted items of clothing and/or other useful things – like books, jewelery or an unopened beauty gift — and encourage a swap shop, Noel Edmonds style. This way, you have lots of fun, plus a new wardrobe or something else new to enjoy – without having to pay anything at all!

Pampering Princesses: Suggest a sleepover party, so everyone can be snuggly and comfortable in pyjamas and get ready for some serious pampering. All hands on deck as you give each other facials, mani-peds, help with waxing, and indulgent hair treatments. Finish with the ultimate skincare treat by applying No7’s Protect & Perfect beauty serum. Then lie back on some plumped pillows, light some candles, dip some fruit into a yummy chocolate fondue and gossip the night away.

Film Night Fun: Select a film theme and bring a bag full of clothes and accessories to dress up as your screen heroines; ‘Sex and The City’ fashion, laid back Greek style ‘Mamma Mia’, or 50s glamour ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ for example. Dress each other up, experiment with hair and make-up – you can use a beauty gift colour palette which gives oodles of choice. Coordinate your refreshments too, from Cosmopolitans to Ouzo, sushi to feta cheese and olives on cocktail sticks. To complete, press play on the chosen DVD and enjoy.

Girly Chat: Friendships are a vital part of our lives and having a fun night with our closest friends help our problems fade away. To make a change from the obligatory man/baby/celebrity talk, get everyone to write down 5-10 funny, interesting or embarrassing questions, such as “Have you ever….?” Or “What’s the most…?” on separate bits of paper and put them all in a hat. Then, one at a time, everyone take turns to draw out a question to answer.

So who needs to paint the town red, when we can cosy up with our girlie mates and have a great evening at home instead? And don’t forget the camera to record those hilarious and precious moments to remember and to treasure.
