Exploring The Delights Of The Greek Islands
When it comes to holidaying in the Greek islands you are spoilt for choice on destinations to visit. But one of the most stunning of all the islands is undoubtedly Skiathos, nestled in the Aegean and extremely popular with holidaymakers.
Many people go to the Greek islands for their beaches, which are invariably stunning and beautiful. The beaches in Skiathos are no exception, and there are dozens to choose from. While it is wonderful to be staying very near to one and to have only a short trip from your Greek hotel to the beach and the sea every day, make sure you take the time to venture further afield and explore some of the other beaches that Skiathos has to offer as well, because they are all unique in their own way.
If you prefer some exercise to lounging around on the beach, then you will find plenty to do to keep you amused. For example you can take part in many different water sports, from swimming to scuba diving, and even sailing locations such as Piraeus. If something gentler is on the cards, then invest in or rent some snorkelling equipment to give you a taste of what lies beneath the Greek waves, and gently lapping in to some of the beaches on Skiathos. You don’t have to swim too far out to see some amazing sights here.
If you’d rather stay on dry land, why not opt for some of the wonderful walks available and see another side of the island altogether? The Mandraki forest offers a shaded path, and you can plan your route to bring you out onto one of the island’s many beaches.
If you are a little unsure about venturing out on your own, you can take part in guided walks that show you the delights of Skiathos in more detail. You will also be more likely to find places of interest that are off the beaten track – giving you an excellent opportunity to make your Greek holiday a little more unconventional and also take some photos for the album that not everyone will have.
If you are looking for entertainment for the evenings then you should head into Skiathos Town, which is renowned for its bars and restaurants. It is the perfect way to end a lazy day on the beach, and offers plenty of opportunities for sampling local Greek produce if you have worked up an appetite after negotiating the island on foot.
Of course you will need to book somewhere to stay for your holiday, and Skiathos town hotels make a good choice if you want somewhere different to a villa or an apartment. They also allow you to stay somewhere close to the nightlife and yet still within easy reach of the best beaches the island has to offer.
So if you are planning a Greek holiday in the near future, make Skiathos your first choice.
