Indulge your Christmas Spirit with a Trip to Liverpool

Home of the legendary Beatles, crowned a World heritage Site and currently voted European Capital of Culture, the city of Liverpool has a lot going for it. Indeed, having just celebrated its 800th anniversary, as well as playing host to the renowned MTV Music awards, it manages to superbly fuse its fascinating history together with a vibrant and modern cultural life.

Set against the north bank of the Mersey River, Liverpool has a rich heritage in the maritime industry. However, it has also developed into a thriving economic centre, with many attractions and sights to experience.

In fact, boasting more Grade I and II listed buildings than any other city in the UK after London, it offers up a huge variety of galleries, theatres, shops, bars and nightclubs to visit. Not only that, but Liverpool is also well known for its sporting achievements, with its two football clubs — Everton and Liverpool — taking centre stage.

So, if you fancy taking a festive break to unwind before the chaos of Christmas hits, then Liverpool is the place to visit. With a packed social programme in honour of its status as European Capital of Culture, there couldn’t be a better time to go.

As winter rolls around, the city is also gearing up to host its most exciting Christmas yet. Therefore, visitors to Liverpool can expect to be festively entertained during their trip. And, from carol singing to reindeers, the organisers have thought of everything to get you in the Christmas spirit!

Kicking off in mid-November, and running every Thursday until mid-December, the streets of Liverpool will come alive with a range of festive activities. With over 50 different acts planned, including brass bands, street performers and choirs, it is definitely worth checking out.

The city is also home to Liverpool’s very own Christmas market. Offering up over 40 different stalls, with items on display from across Europe, it is a great place to start the Christmas shopping. It is also brilliant for indulging in some mulled wine before you hit the shops!

And, when you’ve finished after a hard day’s retail therapy, you can go for a quick spin around the outdoor skating rink before heading off to see a pantomime! You’ll be spoilt for choice with so many classics to choose from, such as The Emperor’s New Clothes, Cinderella and Mother Goose.

Liverpool is a great city to visit at any time of the year. However, with what promises to be an impressive Christmas bonanza, why not head there for a festive break this year? In addition to the sumptuous array of eateries on offer and lively nightlife to experience, there is a wide range of Liverpool hotels to choose from. All you have to worry about then is which Christmas performances and events to catch first!
