LCD KVM switches series offer a space-saving, streamlined approach to KVM switch technology by integrating a LCD panel, a full keyboard, and a touchpad into a 1 Rack Unit or simply 1U housing. KVM sharing devices function in reverse compared to KVM switches; that is, a single PC can be connected to multiple monitors, keyboards, and mice. The LCD KVM Console solution is an integrated, 1U device that manages servers in data centers, server rooms and other space critical environments directly from the racks in which they are installed. Support Multiple Data Center Configurations.

These LCD KVM switches are generally used in various Organisations for various purposes. Different Models have different purposes. But the purpose of the switches depend not on the amount spent but on the business usage.

The LCD and keyboard/touchpad modules slide independently of each other. To maximize space in your data center, the keyboard/touchpad module slides back to ” hide away ” when not in use, while the thin profile LCD KVM switches rotates back – flush against the rack – allowing convenient monitoring of computer activity.

Subsequently, these were replaced by a special LCD KVM switches and cables which combined the keyboard, video and mouse cables in a single wrapped extension cable. The advantage of the last approach is in the reduction of the number of cables between the KVM switch and connected computers. The disadvantage is the cost of these cables.

The 17-inch LCD rack console and integrated KVM switches create a single, integrated access solution for SMB and server room environments- for example, a public kiosk machine that also has a staff maintenance interface behind the counter, or a home office computer that doubles as a home theater PC.. LCD KVM switches solutions provide optimal support of PS/2 and USB systems. Out-of-band access to critical servers is non-intrusive to the network and reduces downtime.

As many as 31 additional KVM switches can be daisy-chained to the CL5716, so that up to 512 computers can all be controlled from a single KVM console.

KVM switches offer different methods of connecting the computers. Depending on the product, the switch may present native connectors on the device where standard keyboard, monitor and mouse cables can be attached. Another method to have a single DB25 or similar connector that aggregated connections at the switch with three independent keyboard, monitor and mouse cables to the computers.

Digital KVM switches were originally passive, mechanical devices based on multi-pole switches and some of the cheapest devices on the market still use this technology. Multiple serially-managed servers, network devices and power strips from anywhere.

A Digital Visual Interface switch can be used in a variety of situations. From a user that simply has two Digital Visual Interface capable CPU’s who needs to consolidate into a single keyboard, mouse and display, all the way to the high end user who needs access to many devices using multiple displays and a single keyboard and mouse. The need for USB ports, audio and microphone switching also play an important part in the application.
