What Should You Do on Your First Week of the Job

Starting a new work in a new place with many new people can be very stressful and confusing for everybody. It’s not easy to get used to the new conditions and expectations in a new company. Many people make foolish mistakes only on their first week and embarrass themselves for a very long time. This is why it’s very important to know what should you do on your first week of the job, so you can avoid this kind of unpleasant situations. The problem is that many people just don’t have any idea how to behave and what to do. Here are a few simple tips which can help you with that.
Dress well. A very common mistake for many people who have just started a new job, is to not dress well enough. When you’re starting a new job it’s very important to make a good first impression on your bosses and colleagues. This first impression is the thing they will remember you by for the whole time you work there. This is why it’s a lot better to be a little overdressed than to appear at work too casually dressed. So, it’s better to dress in a suit than in some jeans and a t-shirt.
Be friendly. Many people make the mistake to act cold with their new colleagues on the first day to make them seem important somehow. This is a very wrong technique, because this way you’ll never find new friends on the job and everybody will think that you’re a snob of some kind. This is why it’s a lot better to smile all the time and be friendly to your new co-workers. This way you’ll make a good first impression and everybody will like you. But if you make the mistake to make a bad first impression, you won’t last a lot there, because every company is all about team work, and you can’t work there if the team doesn’t like you.
Be polite. This is something everybody knows, but still has to be told. Your politeness is the only thing that works for you during your first days of work, because still nobody knows you and if they don’t like you, they can get rid of you very easily and find someone better. This is why you should be nice and polite to everyone you meet, no matter of their position in the company. Right now they are all standing above you, because they are not “the new guy”.
Ask questions. Every professional inventory clerk in our London company can tell you that asking questions is the most important thing you should do on your first week on the job. After all, you’re new there and you don’t know so many things about the environment you’re going to work in, so it’s good to ask all the questions you have in your mind, no matter how stupid they may seem to you.
Do everything they tell you. Some people think that if they know what the work is based on, they can start doing it from the first day, without asking anyone for anything. But it doesn’t work like that. The first week you’re just getting to know everybody and everything, so you should just wait until somebody tells you what to do. Don’t jump into the deep water unless they ask you to.
Starting a new work in a new place is always confusing for everybody. But if you know what should you do on your first week of the job, everything should be a lot easier. Just be confident and open to everything new, and everything will be fine.
