Why not get grooving in Glasgow?

Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, is known to many as a gritty and industrious destination but don’t let that put you off. Its history as an industrial powerhouse has given the city the vibrant characteristic that can be seen in both its buildings and its people. In addition, Glasgow’s sights and shopping are as good an excuse as any to experience the charm of this city; however, it is the nightlife where Glasgow really comes alive.

Glasgow has long been Scotland’s entertainment and nightlife capital; where it is not surprising to find many of the large international acts perform at the spectacular Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC). The SECC is the largest exhibition and conference centre in the United Kingdom and holds concerts and exhibitions almost every night in its 12,000 seat arena. Furthermore, the SECC is worth a look just to see the Clyde Auditorium, the newest addition to the complex, which has been nicknamed the Armadillo by the locals, in Glasgow.

In particular, Glasgow’s music scene has been known to create an incredible atmosphere, with a plethora of venues in the city playing host to the many musical artists that come to play every year. In fact, it was the popular venue of King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, that in 1993 acted as the place where popular indie band Oasis was to be discovered. Oasis soon grew to legendary status in the British charts and has been a success story ever since. As such, there is great live music to be found every night, particularly if you keep your ear to the ground; where you can be experiencing the vibe of the Glaswegian nightlife in no time.

Another legendary music venue that is a must-see is the popular Barrowland Ballroom. Once hailed by popular heavy rock band Metallica as being the best performance of their career, the Barras, as it is affectionately known by the locals, is a Glasgow institution. Originally an old dancehall, it is now a venue the more established bands who want to give an intimate performance are quite likely to take to the stage.
Glasgow’s Merchant City area, right in the centre of the city, also has a multitude of vibrant bars and restaurants available, should you wish to take a break from all of the fun you are having with the music. It is therefore useful to know that there are plenty of accommodation options in the centre of the city, as well as flights to Glasgow available, which can help make your Glaswegian experience come true. As you can see, Glasgow’s nightlife is the perfect excuse for a trip to Scotland’s most industrious city.
